Cork Madness

So, my aunt likes wine. Wait, let me rephrase that: I like wine. My aunt LOVES wine. And she had a large collection of corks that she was not doing anything with, so I asked if I could have them (IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK!). Of course, she gave me the corks and then, I had a large collection of corks that I did nothing with. For several months at least. Then I decided to make this:

I just found a frame that I liked (I LOVE barn wood) then cut a piece of cardboard the same size as the inside of the frame and started gluing the corks onto the cardboard. I have it hanging in my kitchen, and I really love it, though I don't use it as a cork board as I had planned. So far, the only thing pinned to it is an indoor/outdoor thermometer (thanks, Dave!).

So, then I still had large collection of corks that I wasn't doing anything with. In fact my Aunt was still bringing me corks when she would come home from TX, so my collection was growing! I had a big basket of them stashed in my laundry room; I had them stuffed in a mason jar on my dining room table; I had a punch bowl on display filled to the brim in one of my kitchen cabinets! But then, a miracle happened and my sweet friend sent me an invite to Pintrest and my life was CHANGED.

First I made this E for my Aunt. I love how it turned out! I just drew a block letter on a piece of cardboard and went to gluing. I assumed that it would be wall art and that I would mount a hook on the back so she could hang it, but then when it was done I realized it could stand up on it's own too. I don't know which way I like it better now!

Then I made this T for my boyfriend (I might give it to his mom though, what do you think?).

I found this foam board-a la 3rd grade book reports-at the dollar tree, and it was much easier to cut the letter from--and it only cost $1!

Then I made another cork board. This time I hot glued the corks to the inside of a cookie sheet, and I am going to mount magnets on the back so it can be hung on a refrigerator. (They make rolls of magnets that you can cut to size and then peel the back lining off and stick them to things--brilliant). I used all synthetic corks on this one since I was using only real corks in the letters and I didn't want the synthetic ones to feel neglected.

Finally, I made this wreath. I got the idea from one of my cousins and I am so in love with it. I made it smaller because, let's face it, I have a small house, and I didn't want the wreath to take up too much space. But I really would like for it to be bigger. But it looks cute on my front door, no? And I can make different decorations for it for all seasons!

Here is a view of the back where I hot glued some twine on to hold it up:

And here it is on my front door!

Now, someone needs to start drinking more wine, because I am running low on corks!
